Thanksgiving Road Trip!

For Thanksgiving me and my husband drove to Texas to visit my family! We figured we would stop in New Orleans since it is halfway between Tampa and Dallas and we had never been there before. It was sort of a, “Why not?” We had always been told that it was similar to Savannah, where we both went to college, so we were in for a huge surprise when we rolled up to the French Quarter on a Tuesday evening and there was live jazz on every other street corner and neon lights lit up the night! I knew New Orleans had a nightlife, I just had no idea it was Every Night! We had a great time, had some authentic New Orleans cuisine, and got to stay in a beautiful hotel on the River, French Market Inn. In the morning we had Beignets at Cafe DuMont (I mean, you can’t go to New Orleans and Not try the Beignets… or so we were told 🙂 ) As someone who Loves donuts and powdered sugar, I have to say they were pretty tasty!  We ate them on the corner of Jackson Square whilst listening to more live jazz.

Of course we had a great time visiting family and eating turkey, we always do! There is never a shortage of fun things to do while in Texas; good food, fun games, tasting our good family friends’ honey mead, and teaching my husband to drive a stick shift M-Roadster were only a few of the cool things we packed in the 2.5 days we were there. All of that being said, New Orleans was such a new experience for both of us and we are already planning our next trip!</span

Here is a quick shot I took of our beignets while my husband very impatiently kept asking, every three seconds, if I was done yet…  😀 Also, as a side note, if you live in the Tampa area, Tibby’s New Orleans Kitchen has pretty good beignets… dare I even say…. better than Cafe DuMont?
